Planktonic Algae

Planktonic algae encompass a wide growth form and diverse biology of water-suspended algae. They can be diatoms (glass like algae), blue-green (bacteria), green algae (similar to plants), and many more. In freshwater, commonly the there is a mixture of blue-green, diatoms, and green algae. They can form a scum or hover just beneath the waves. Depending on the type, they can produce foul odors or even liver and neurotoxins. Water’s with these algae can differ in color from red, brown, and grey to a blue-green or plant like green color.
