Algae span from single-celled planktonic small organisms that you have to use a microscope to see, to large ocean kelps that can be 300 feet long. In today's episode we're going to talk about what algae are, how we would define them, how many types there are, and whether they’re good or bad.

Algae are organisms with no true roots, stems, or leaves and are mostly photoautotrophic. There are over 30,000 known species of algae. Many algae species live in ponds, rivers, streams, and lakes. Some are good, but many are bad and kill fish and make the water dirty and toxic. It’s important to remove toxic algae from your pond to make sure you can achieve a healthy pond.
