Phragmites is a large grass native to wetland sites throughout temperate and tropical regions of the world. The erect stems can grow to 3 - 18 feet tall, with taller plants growing in areas with hot summers and fertile growing conditions. The leaves are broad for a grass, and seed pods emerge at the top of the plants with a loose, branching cluster of tan spikelets.
